Papers, 1955-1983.

The Kent State University Libraries and Media Services Department of Special Collections and Archives began purchasing Gary Snyder's manuscripts in the early 1970s and has made it a collecting priority since that time. One of the focus areas for collection development in the Deparment is contemporary poetry. An effort is made to collect Snyder's printed works comprehensively, while enhancing the printed material with manuscripts and letters whenever possible. The collection includes manuscripts of individual poems, his poetry collection, Myths & Texts, and Peter Easy's work about Snyder's poetry. The collection is composed mainly of Snyder's correspondence with Will Petersen and with Arthur and Kit Knight. This collection will be a valuable resource to scholars pursuing research of Gary Snyder and his work.
